Athens Philharmonia Orchestra and City of Athens Chorus
Philarmonia Orchestra of Athens presents, in first appearance in Greece, the “3rd Symphony (of the First of May)” by Dmitri Shostakovich. The work was presented for the first time by the Philarmonic Orchestra and the Academic Chorus in Leningrand, at the occasion of the anniversary of Lenin's death.
Poetry at the end of the Symphony is written by Semyon Kirsanov. The spirit that characterizes the whole work absolutely reflects the juvenile optimism of the Soviet decade of the 20s.
The programme of the concert is completed with the “Pastoral of the summer” by Arthur Honegger and three small lyric circles of Greek songs for voice and orchestra by Maurice Ravel, Antonin Dvorak and Constantine Sfakianakis, with Artemis Bogri as soloist.
