In May 2023, the Göttingen International Handel Festival focused on Greek Αntiquity under the title Hellas! Internationally renowned Handel connoisseur George Petrou, the Festival’s artistic director, both conducted and staged the new production of “Semele”, a musical drama conceived “after the manner of an oratorio”, which relates the story of yet another Jupiter’s love affair with a mortal. Taking over from Göttingen, Olympia is presenting in co-production with the Festival this fresh, exuberant rendition of “Semele”, featuring a brilliant cast of early music expert singers, with Swiss star soprano Marie Lys in the title role.
