In its last concert at the Olympia Theatre, the City of Athens Symphony Orchestra of the presents an original programme of vivid imagination, with works the titles of which refer to parts of the daytime.
From the lightly melodic “Morning Song” by Elgar, to the idle “Prelude to the afternoon of a fawn” by Debussy, and up to the tempestuous and dark “Night at the bald mountain” by Mussorgsky, the particular mood of every point of time is reflected in the descriptive and evocative compositions included in the programme. Soloist at the impressive “Nights in the gardens of Spain” by de Falla is the pianist Nefeli Mousoura, while Vladimiros Symeonidis is directing from the podium.
