City of Athens Symphony Orchestra & Chorus
Celebrating Easter, the City of Athens Symphony Orchestra and Chorus present works of sacred music honoring the tradition of Protestant, Orthodox and Catholic Church. In this solemn programme are included magnificent compositions, such as the monumental Psalm 114 by Mendelssohn for double chorus and orchestra, the “Great Russian Easter Overture” by Rimsky-Korsakov, which relates to the Russian Orthodox liturgy, and the Requiem by Fauré, the best-known of his large works· compared to the dramatic masterpieces by Verdi, Brahms and Berlioz, Fauré’s Requiem is a delicate work of ethereal beauty that focuses on eternal rest and consolation.
